Thank you very much Prasanna... :) I got AIR 195/3207... what do you think?

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Congratulations Anand,
your rank is very good. Dont rest now, go for making a good portfolio :)

Hi prassana..
I have an air rank of 705.
I have score of 47.5 and i am obc..
On Results it is written that Qualifying marks for OBC are 52.25.
Does that mean that i cannot apply for any of the IIT?
Please clarify my situation

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

If a student scores less than the qualifying percentage, he has not qualified. The IIT admission form specifically ask for CEED qualified score. But rules keep changing and u may want to verify this.

Prasad Sandbhor said...

Hi Prasanna,
i got AIR 646 with 48.75 total marks. For open category, they say 58 are qualifying marks. Can i apply to various DATs still? or i need to retry next time?

Hi Prasanna,
Thanks a lot for the wonderful effort through your blog.
It helped me a lot, and I qualified with AIR 227.
Being someone who first heard about the exam just in time to make the application date, I truly thank you for all the help I have had from your site.
You Rock Bro!
Another Request, could you provide links (if any) to the posts for helping us with making the portfolio and applying to the various courses.... Thanks!

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Dear Prasad,
Apparently your score is below the qualification. IITs generally require the minimum score. You can still check on their websites.

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Congratulations Aramis,
I am really happy that the blog helped you. You will find all the relevent links here
Enjoy :)

Hey Prasanna,

first of all this blog is helping young designers reach thr destination, kudos to ur work !

i've few questions,
1. In terms of placement, which iit/iisc is at top ?
2. Normally which companies visit for the placements ?
3. Is there any opportunity to go abroad while studying ?
4. I am interested more in game development side, so please recommend me appropriate course.

Thanks a lot!

sir i have cleared ceed 2012 wit AIR 203. is there any scop 4 me to get admission in any iits or iisc?? wat should i prepare to clear next rounds?

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hello Saurabh,
I am not in position to answer the first three questions about the placement.
As far as I know there is no specific course for game development. Students from Animation courses and from Interaction design courses are chosen for game development. Further, while doing your MDes, you can choose courses appropriate to your career path if the institute provides this option and courses respectively.
Best of luck

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hello hfh,
CEED papers are normally available here but the site is not up yet. Tentatively, the paper will be available in a month or so.
I am not aware of any other method apart from this to obtain the paper of CEED 2012 :(

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hello Hari,
Congratulation on clearing ceed 2012 wit AIR 203
The scope of getting admission cannot be determined yet, as it depends on the scores of rest of the applicants, your performance in interviews and DAT.
I suggest you can start making a portfolio. I have a few tips in this regards here
You can find many useful links about the preparation of DAT and interview here
Let me know if you need to know anything more
Best of luck

This link - http://www.gate.iitb.ac.in/query/ceed12/result3.php

says enter 7 digit number but my application number is 8 digits!

What is happening? Can anyone help?

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hi Ravi,
Did you try Registration ID (NOT Application No.) as it appears on your admit card?

Vinayak Pancholi said...

Hello sir,
I want to ask you about MIT Institute of Design, Pune.
Will it be worth if I drop one year and prepare for IDC or NID in animation or should I go for private institue like MITID(post-graduate diploma)and tuition fee at MITID is quite high too.
Please advice me as soon as possible, last date for MITID-DAT is 31 jan(my career hangs on the line on this decision)

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hello Vinayak,
I am really sorry, but i dont have much idea to comment on your query, because i do not have much information about MITID, and compare it with the other options.
Plz do let us know, if you find out anything from some other source.
Best of luck, for whatever decision you take!

Vinayak Pancholi said...

Hello sir,
My preference is Govt colleges for animation because private firms are software oriented rather than emphasizing technique.
IDC has wider animation syllabus than MITID(with fee around 3.3L).
I want to ask you, how much is ceed rank should I get so that I could get a call for animation course from IDC and would it be good if I drop year for its preparation?

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hello Vinayak,
The cutoffs for IITs vary a lot each year, so its hard to make such a prediction. Further the call is not guaranteed even for an excellent score, as it depends on you application form

vivek said...

Hey Prasanna !

I managed AIR 81 in CEED this year and I owe a big big thankyou to your blog and you !

I have a few questions ,
1. In my portfolio so far i have sketches , logos and posters done for various events .Would this suffice for a visual communication program ? As Interaction Design is my second priority can i show a portfolio with logos and posters when applying to a interaction design programme ?

2. For the interview , you have said before one should know the discipline one is applying to . I have a Elecrical Engg. Background with 2 yrs in IT but I have been doing freelance logo + poster design work on the side . Is such a background in line with what they might expect from a candidate applying to the visual communication programme ? Again will my experience/portfolio with logo + poster designs have any weight during an interview for interaction design as i have no experience in the same but i do have a keen interest in studying it?

Regards,
Vivek

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hello Vivek,
Congratulations on your AIR of 81! The intent of making portfolio is to convince that you are suitable candidate to take up the course you have applied for. Since you are interested in Visual Communication, you must include your posters and logo designs.
Since Interaction Design is your second priority, you need to put some work in your portfolio. I suggest you can put a mobile interface. It will show both your graphic design skills and your interaction design inclination.
You can send across your work for review.
Best of luck

hfh said...

Hey Prasanna,

Ur earlier reply with regard to Vinayaks query tells the call is not guaranteed even for an excellent score, as it depends on you application form, What does this mean? and how many seats are available for Product Design and engineering course in IISc Bangalore.

Hey Guys ,

Anyone else facing issues accessing the IDC form ?

Hi,
I am fading a problem.
I haven't recieved the CEED scorecard yet, and without it, I can not dispatch my application. I live in Delhi and the package would need some time to reach IIT B, the last date is 6th Feb, 2012. Please suggest what I should do.
I have mailed pgadm regarding this, but haven't heard back from them yet.
Thanks.

Hi sir,

I have a question.
I have applied for both Industrial Design & mobility design in IDC.. Should my portfolio contain a mixture of works related to product design and transport design or do i need to prepare separate portfolio works for both the disciplines..

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hello Anand,
The portfolio you prepare conveys to the interview panel your skills and interest for that particular course. It might happen that you are more interested in , say, mobility design and industrial design is your second choice. In such case it is recommended that your portfolio should be able to convince the interview panel that you are a good candidate for mobility design. Further, you can also can consider mobility design as a subset of industrial design. And present few of your car sketches as showing your skill in sketching rather than designing cars alone. Thus I recommend you to prepare a common portfolio that conveys your skill set, like sketching, idea generation, concepts and modeling skills, which maximizes your chances for getting selected for any of these courses.
Best of luck :)

Hey Prasanna, can you please tel me about "Product Design and Engg", "Computational Sciences" and "transportational & infra engg".

What is basically the differnce between them ?

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hi Saurabh,
Product design and engineering course (as offered at IISc) builds the skils necessary to conceptualize, evaluate and engineer the products.
Computational science is the field of study concerned with constructing mathematical models and quantitative analysis techniques and using computers to analyze and solve scientific problems.(copy pasted from Wikipedia)
I dont know about "transportational & infra engg"

thanks a lot Prasanna ! :)

Hi Prasanna,
i am preparing for the next ceed exam and it is making me really edgy.i want admission to idc bombay more than anything else and i am very worried if this is going to happen or not.i must have gone through the complete blog 10 times already but still find myself tense.i have an it background and currently working as an in-house web designer for a company.i particularly want the animation course in idc bombay, i want to go into film making.god forbid if i dont get admission in that course, can you, or anyone else, suggest some alternatives.how can i improve my chances for that particular course.???please help...:(

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hello Tanvir,
I really asked the question you asked. It inspired a new post. Plz go thru the new post Getting selected for Animation design
I've mentioned your name in the acknowledgement, if you want it to be removed plz let me know

God forbid if the admission is not available, you can always start your own animation studio. there are very few such studios out there and a great demand for it! I have put some resources in the same post to help you

Best of luck :)

Hey Guys ,

Any idea when the Delhi , Kanpur and Guwahati forms come out .. ?

Anand Sangani said...

Hello Prasanna,

I want to clarify that this time, in the IIT-Delhi forms, the CEED 'score' field has been disabled (displaying 'NA') and Percentile is asked.
My score in CEED is 59 out of 100. and counting percentile like GATE gives me 93.95.

The CEED 2012 scorecard doesn'y contain any information regarding Percentile.

What should I write in Percentile field?

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hi Anand,
Maybe you are right try entering your percentile :)

Hii prasanna,
Happy new year first of all.
I qualified for ceed with rank 212
My marks in part b is 34/100.
Idc has kept their cutoff 50+ for gen catg n so I can only apply to the self sponsered catgry.
Looking at the first experience from idc, I feel the cutoffs for other institutes will also be this high and I won't make it to the applications even :(
Do you have any idea or experience to share in this regard?
I am b.tech n think I can apply to kanpur, Bangalore n Delhi.
Though again I dont think the rank can help for any sort as seats are too less.
Shall I wait and start preparation for portfolio or plan for next year?

Regards,
Nitin
