Industrial design deals with looks, function and human factors associated with any product, while machine design deals with strength, engineering function and production of a part of machine or equipment.
You can look into the course content of any IIT, and specially IIT-B for further clarification
Best luck :)Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. )https://www.blogger.com/profile/08159038556750720430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741727036147963544.post-18317357280438955972012-09-17T19:06:23.861+05:302012-09-17T19:06:23.861+05:30Hello Sir,

Second, you will waste some time in converting the figure to front view side view, etc. And that too if you make a mistake reading the views, you are done!
One more point i feel is, this figure is easy to convert into such orthographic projections, since it has all edges at 90 degrees, but it might be complicated to convert a compound figure into it.Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. )https://www.blogger.com/profile/08159038556750720430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741727036147963544.post-88727545478309182222012-09-17T09:30:20.221+05:302012-09-17T09:30:20.221+05:30Hello woyzeck ,

Looks good (wish we get such photos this time) & so simple that it almost makes me look dumb. :-/ What went wrong when I did it was, I didn't unite the bodies, may be that is why it showed 3 & 8 as a single face. Silly me.
So the correct ans remains 16. Thank you for your quick responses & elaborate sketches, helped me a lot!
Hope you would do the necessary changes in the solution set soon. UG is showing these two faces as different, but that is only when I use the 'Unite' command to merge the separate bodies.
Actually, faces 3 and 8 are different, because they are separated at least by one edge.

Thanks, for pointing out. i corrected the numbering of question and included a better picture of the question paper

This time the exam is online, so the images wont be printed, they will be displayed at a good resolution on screen.Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. )https://www.blogger.com/profile/08159038556750720430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741727036147963544.post-69791305234108492452012-09-12T01:12:43.611+05:302012-09-12T01:12:43.611+05:30Hi Prasanna, Thank you for explaining it so well. ...Hi Prasanna, Thank you for explaining it so well. Totally clears out all the ambiguity. I know this Q seems very easy, but its a tricky one, I feel.

I wanted to be sure that I was visualizing it correctly so I created the block in Pro-E, sounds stupid, but I just wanted to be very sure about it. Well, to my surprise, when I selected all the faces 1 by 1, I was surprised to see a total of 15 selected items.
Observing the selections I understood that Pro-E took faces 3 & 8 (as indicated in the paint image above) not as two different faces but a single face. Hence making a total of 15 faces. Although ProE seems to have the right logic, I am not fully convinced as to what is the right answer. Is it 15 or 16?

Please help.
(One more thing, its the 34th Question, doesn't really matter though)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17124968191000033422noreply@blogger.com
