dont have any exp in design uptill now, what do I show in the interviews?

You will probably appear for CEED. For this you may sketch something. Few of these sketches will turn pretty interesting (hopefully :) ) You can show this as your skill in sketching. Also, your hobby can be transformed into a portfolio article. Say, you like cooking... just arrange a nice and tasty dish, take a few snaps, and take prints. This shows your sense in aesthetics!

Hello Prasanna sir,
I am a new guy in designing field.
I am going to face interviews at IDC,IIT.
How do i prepare and arrange portfolios for "visual comm" & "interaction design"?
Can they both be same?
And What number of art-piece are expected?

Hi Riken,
You can include simple sketches, posters, logos, ad designs in visual communication and web pages, apps, games, etc in interaction design. There can be some overlap between those two. For example, if you design a web page, the layout, icons, etc, will be part of VC, while the way the user interacts with the web page will be a part of Interaction design.
Best of luck

Hello Sir,

I have filled up the CEED 2014 form. But now I am scared because my sketching is not good, even I dont have a portfolio except photography of which I have professional experience as well. I have not done any product design projects before to include in portfolio. Please guide me should I drop my dream to be product designer or is there any ray of hope ?

Hi Nitin,
You will need to have some sketching skills to clear CEED. Focus on CEED first. You will have plenty of time after that to prepare a portfolio. Its not that difficult to learn sketching. There is a really awesome book for this. "Drawing made Easy" by Subodh Narvekar. You can buy this book in any major book store or the online link is given in 'resources' page of this blog

Hi
I am currently pursuing engineering course. Can I add my BE project in my portfolio, If it shows some innovation?
Will I have less chances of getting into a good design schools than that of Barch and design graduates?

Hi Shalaka,
You can surely show your final year project! And if you have a good portfolio, and good design skills you have equal chances as anyone else. In fact, design schools prefer students from diverse backgrounds, so it might even hlep you
All the best!

Hi Prasanna. I have done my engineering in IT field and right now I am working in a Digital Marketing firm in the SEO department. I can do a bit of sketching. I want to pursue MDes in Information Design at NID. Hypothetically, if I am able to clear the DAT prelims, I don't know if I will be able to clear the DAT Studio test. So far I have got the idea that they ask you to build clay models and other types. I have no experience in it and neither any hands on experience on any digital art. Can you guide on what I should do in this situation? Also, what kind of questions will be asked in the interviews?
