Green Klip

this concept is good for people who need a reality check on how much energy they consume. Designed like a leaf, the Green Klip is just that – a clip that can be, well, clipped to a cable. The colour remains green if you are using the required energy and goes red if the consumption is more than you should be happy with. The design is apparently made of recyclable material and requires neither maintenance nor external power. It is also easy to use and read.

Hi Prasanna,

I've been following your blog closely since the past couple of months. It feels great to have someone guiding us.

I have a question. Why did you select IISc over IDC? I plan to study Interaction Design, so IISc is kind of a fall back option for me.

Also, is there anything different that a candidate might be required to do if he is more interested in Interaction Design than Product Design or Visual Comm ?

Dear Hrishikesh,

Thanks a lot for ur comments. Nice to know that there is someone out there reading this silly stuff!

You have asked a very good question. I was in same dilemma about 3 years back. For my answer u might need to understand the subtle difference between product design (which IISc offers, and IDC does not offer) and industrial design (which IISc does not offer). Product Design is a branch of Product Design that deals mainly into solving problems though design of products. Industrial Design deals with designing products as well as redesigning them. I always see products as something that changes people's lives. I have dream of designing such new, innovative and versatile products. Hence i chose doing Masters in Product Design.
Some of my steps in this dream are Braille Watch and Cashew Shelling Machine

Another point is that, IISc is a research institute that invests into the 'science' behind the subjects. I saw this as an opportunity to do some research. During my masters i managed to publish a few papers, so it was a good decision. Perhaps i could have done the same at IDC.

If a candidate is interested in a certain field he may need to convince the interview committee of his interests by preparing a relevant portfolio. Like, suppose u want to apply for interaction design your portfolio will need to contain, say, mobile interface, some interesting concepts for websites, or a redesigned mouse. While some sketches, renderings, calligraphy, posters, etc would have to be shown by a Visual Communication candidate.

Hope that helps :)

Best of luck!

P.S. Your blog Project X.R.D. is pretty cool! Also on your personal blog i like "How It Could Have Been" I have a diary entry like this one, but its much incoherent than yours :P

Hi, Prasanna,...
You have done a great Work in Braille Watch and Cashew Shelling Machine,..

I have been looking for the same kind of work... but instead that, I could find only images full of rendered and sketched concepts only by now,..

I am so glad to see your work, real contribution to R & D..
