Logo is a symbol or an icon that is designed for an organization or an individual so that their presence is easily recognized. Logos are generally applied to anything and everything the user of the logo does. Thus if you are designing a logo for yourself, it will appear on all the pages of your portfolio, your t-shirt, your watch… even you can tattoo one on yourself! You should design a good logo that it is easily recognized and is unique. Changing a logo is not recommended, except in special cases, because then you need to spend a lot of efforts erasing public memory and creating new identity (this is often a part of what is referred to as “re-branding”) Hence special attention should be given to design of logos. Here is a selection of tips on how to design one
1. Understand the need for logo.
What is it that you want to convey through the logo? Say you are designing a logo for a transportation company, then your logo may convey direct relevance if you show steering wheel, road, truck, etc. or it can have a subtle messages like, a arrow, that indicates speedometer. This will make your logo design memorable and relevant to what to company does
2. Keep the logo simple
A simple logo is easy to recognize and remember. For example, remember the logo of Nike? It is a simple logo with a unique style. It is sometimes even recognized in its simplified form of just the tick! You can make the logo simple by gradually removing unnecessary elements. This often the most challenging part of logo design
3. Generating lots concepts
Generate a lots of concepts that capture a wide range of ideas. You can use attribute method for generating a large number of concepts in short time.
4. Select the proper font
When you are designing the logo, it can either contain just the name of the company or just a symbol or a combination of these two. If your logo contains anything with alphabets choosing an appropriate is crucial. Your font should go inline with what you wish to convey. For example, did you observe an arrow formed in FedEx logo though proper use of fonts?
5. Design an interesting logo
Once you have developed a sufficient number of concepts, select a few that you can make even more interesting. An interesting logo will be remembered more. For example, see the arrow below Amazon logo? It brings a smile to face of customers!
6. Keep the application in mind
Make a logo that can be used a wide variety of mediums. For example, it can be printed on letterhead in black, or put up on a hoarding, or embroidered on CEO’s suite. Your logo should encompass this aspect

Hi Prasanna Sir,
I did some basic designing ( like UI of webapps )..but i don't call myself a designer, i just call myself a front-end developer because i know CSS/HTML/Jquery ..
I think a designer have expertise in UX & UI ..
i hardly know about UX ..
can you help me in this department ? Suggest some books or blogs or daily exercise so that UX wise i'll be able to make good(great) UI's.
Is there a process ( like attribute method ) to follow ? or with experience i'll learn this ??
I am very passionate about designing, and seriously want to learn this..
thank you !!
Hello Anish,
I am not too good in the UX & UI design. I use the principles of product design to design whatever visual communication work i do.
Personally, i feel that you can use attribute method for designing great UX & UI.
For example,
you want to design a forest themed UI, you can list donwn attributes of forest you can use in your design. Like, the side bar menu can be differnt trees that user can click. Or, there can be river flowing down the page that helps user guide to different branches of your work.
Let me know, if you want to know more :)
Sir,
What is UX ? Is it the placement of things like navabar, etc,. properly or layout and all that..
or UX is full theme wise UI ( as u exaplained in example of forest ) ..
Hello Anish,
UX is User eXperience. It tells how a user feels while intereacting with a system. The system can be a web-page, cell phone or a product like cricket bat or even a sewing needle.
When applied to web-page design, i believe that user experience can be how you feel while using the web-page. It is combination of how easy the web-page is to understand, how easy it is to use, and how much i can benefit from the way it is designed. For example, Google search focuses on a single text box and two buttons. This means, i can search very easily, therefore its easy to use. Text box is located in the center, so very easy to navigate and finally, when i vist the page, the focus is caught by the text box, so i can start searching without clicking my mouse anywhere! This is a good UX using a good designed UI!
