[CEED 2013 Solution] - R-100, G-100, B-100

There was a question in Part A
What color do you get when R =100, G = 100, B = 100. Its gray
Here is my simulation on MS Powerpoint

Some clarifications:
Based on comments by the readers I feel, that the following clarification needs to be given:

1. There are two color models in RGB.
  (a) Additive colors model - When you combine R, G and B you will get white (application : TV screens)
  (b) Subtractive color model - When you combine R, G and B you will get black (application: poster colors)

2. Generally the RGB values are specified in the following ways:
  (a) Fractional values (e.g. R = 0.63, G = 0.30, B = 0.50)
  (b) Percentage (e.g. R = 63%, G = 30%, B = 50%)
  (c) Digital systems specify the bits of RGB (e.g. 8-bit system will say #381, 16-bit system will say #F85, 64-bit system will say #D22F2F)
  (d) Spectrum code ranging from 0 to 255 (e.g. R = 051, G = 116, B = 250 )

3. If nothing is given, it is assumed that RGB values are specified in Spectrum Code.

In both models, if you set values of R, G and B to 100, you will get a shade of gray

Awsome open source books you must see about this:

this time paper pattern was little bit different many of students didn't understand it properly.. also they did only one question in mandetary part

damn there goes my marks :( i answered as black :(

also there were more questions on camera and calculation part? without calculator it'd take more time.

also for few questions u got to remember the formula to get the solution!

oh no...i clicked white :( ...pls check this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RGB_color_model....it says white is rit :(

The websites of institutes like IISc, say that we need to start applying for the courses even before the CEED results are out...!! ppl pls inform wen u get to kno tat application forms are being issued

REKHA RUDHIRAMOORTHY said...

I answered white too... the pattern was weird some questions were real easy and some I just didnt have any idea what to answer ...

like the one where they asked about aesthetically appealing black and white squares !

@TRIVIKRAM color theory for light and paint differs. the link you have given is about the light rays. Look at this link http://www.wikihow.com/Mix-Colors . BTW,I have gone wrong too by marking black. :(

If you consider the actual values, for grey they are R=B=Y=128. For white they are R=Y=B=255.i may be wrong, but was the value of color given or the %? Cause if it was R =100%, G = 100%, B = 100%....I swear it is white!

the computer value for r=100,g=100,b=100 is grey or #646464....it is actually a little blackish

Unknown said...

i also chose black...sob:(
this time had the longest array of part a questions.i barely attended every questions

hello prasanna sir,
can u suggest something for nid preparation??

Unknown said...

im really worried since ceed dint go well...plz help

TRIVIKRAM said...

even i tried it in MS paint....its grey :( ....!! thanks for the clarification Prasanna!! hope ter were no more tricky questions like this one in the paper!!

IIT always remain same.. does't matter it is JEE or GATE or CEED,

i attempted 42 question in part -A. and this question i attmpted wrong.

It seems only I marked the answer as GRAY, hahahaha.

neva d less, any value with R=G=B will fall only on grayscale. I am 100% sure about it.

Hi Prasanna,
As now CEED is over, Thanks a lot for ur help and guidance. i just have a small suggestion. U should start a general post, where we all can discuss out answers. thank u.

Hi all of u i was more confident in product designing question before CEED , and i also done very well during my preparation.. don't know what happened at time of exam i get nervous and the concepts didn't struck in my mind , i am also very good in visual communication too so I attempted that question very well but only in the final sketch. my sketch has very strong visual communication , shae your views friend..

i found the 'cyan magenta yellow kala' option so funny. i enjoyed the questions of part A.

but when u mix red green and blue in water colors, u get "black".....it's really confusing
-the question is a matter of digital/reality-:/

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hi Varun,

Its correct when you mix red, green and blue, you get black, but this is true only when you have 100 percent colors. Here the questions says you have 100 units colors out of 255 units. This is equivalent to replacing 255 units of water with 100 units colour. In such situation, even with watercolors you will get a diluted black, which will appear gray on paper.

If possible, let me know what you think about this.

Hello Durgesh,
You can have a look at this link to find out important links in this regards. There are some posts that will help you prepare for interview and portfolios of the course you are interested in

Best of luck

its 100,100,100 on the scale of 0-255,0-255,0-255.... its kinda of 100/255 part of the pure R,G,B colors...it anyways cant be white or black... and anything between pure black and pure white in a grayscale is gray...the shades may vary, dark grey, light grey etc... so, until its 0,0,0 or 255,255,255 it always produces a grey shade... and R,G,B combo is mostly used in digital representation of color... practically, these arent additive colors, and dats y we use CMYK to be used in digital printing.,., red, blue, green paints together wudnt produce white paint... practically, they are not additive colors...

and Brother, Ur blog saved me in the second section...thanks alot, its great what you are doing... :)

Hi prasanna..well can u please suggest how to prepare for NID interaction design and interface design prograame. Nid paper is little different from CEED. What approach should i follow? Thanks in advance for guidance and superb blog!

What was last year's cut off?

Thanks for this wonderful Blog!
