CEED 2013 Date are out!! - 25 Nov 2012

Dear Friends,

Its time to buckle up! CEED 2013 dates are out!!

CEED 2013 is being held on 25 Nov 2012

Use this link for application and information (site is being updated, so link may not always work)

Ensure that the documents you upload are of correct size and resolution as specified on this page

Plz visit this link to download the poster with important dates and links

This year, this page says that
"PART-A is a screening test of multiple choice questions, which will be conducted by an online computerized program, and only candidates who secure a minimum cut-off mark qualify to be evaluated for Part B.  There will be negative marking for Part A."
This probably means that the test will be conducted in fashion similar to
TOEFL iBT

A question will appear on the screen and you have to choose your answer and once you confirm the next question will be displayed. This is a good thing because it eliminates the mistakes that candidate might make while marking answers on Objective response sheet that used to be delivered previously

Hello 66k,

Part-A, probably will be similar to GRE, where the questions appear on the screen and you can attempt one at a time

Hello Rilson,
Based on the experience of CEED 2012, Part A screening questions contain objective type multiple choice questions. some simple question like "what will the cube look like when unfolded" and options A, B, C, D

Hi prasanna

How many questions will there be in part A and how much time i need to spare for part A in order to answer part B without much pressure.

Regards
Rajesh

Hello Rajesh,

Its hard to tell how many questions and what will be the duration, but i am sure IIT must have taken care of this. Often the papers are 'tested' before the CEED is administered.

thanks fr ur rply prasanna.

I am basically a Mechanical engineer and working in maintenance dept at a production company.I always found myself alienated within the company. My drawing skill is still within me and i know CEED is the only salvation for me if i improve it.After my days work i would hardly get half an hour to one hour for my CEED.I have 121 days from now for CEED.Is this time enough for me for cracking CEED if i work persistently.

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hello Rajesh,
Weather 121 days are enough or not depends upon many factors. Like how good you are at sketching now, how well do you generate ideas, what do u exactly do in the time you have, etc.
Still you can give it your best shot. you have a stable job to fall back upon.

Best luck :)

Hi Prasanna,

Why don u share your, experience in IIsc's DAT and Interview. It will be really helpful if some is planning for PD in IISC....

Rilson

Hello Rilson,
My experience of IISc interview is already transformed into my posts about how to prepare for CEED. I had appeared for interview about 5 years ago and things have changed a bit since then. I have updated the post from time to time to reflect the changing trends. Therefore, i dont feel its necessary to share what questions were asked word-to-word on the blog :)

hello Prasanna,
PartA has 40 questions with 50 marks, but there is no indication as to which questions are for 1 mark and 2 marks!!! or is each question worth 1.25 marks??? and is there negative marking????

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hello 3vik,
I guess that some questions will carry 1 mark and some will carry 2. Also i believe that there will be negative marking. So gear up for it :)

hello sir
I had filled the form way back when it came out...everyday i used to check my status of application..now ie on penultimate day(25aug'12) of application submission...My application page promts-"application provisionally accepted; invalid marksheet, pls upload principal certificate." I dont know how those people at gate office found my 5th sem marksheet issued by university and duly attested by director INVALID!!...I called up to them on phone, they said, nothing to worry..Now, the future of my application is quite uncertain :( :(

TRIVIKRAM said...

hello Chethan,

Now that your application has been provisionally accepted ,you should'nt be having difficulties in writing the exam!Follow up with the gate office ppl and you can sort out the problem later, concentrate on preparing for the xm now.
Relax and all the best :)

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

hello Chetan,
Maybe you should re-look and ascertain that your documents meet the criteria listed on this page, or not.
Maybe you are getting an automatic generated response because it might be of incorrect size or format.
As trivikram suggests, it might be actually accepted, and what you got was just a warning.
I hope things sort out
Best luck

hello sir ,, :) nice work wid the blog..i have been following it from quite some time..appreciate it a lot ! ..well i have some confusions..first..am interested in product design and industrial design..would you please tell what is the difference between these two..and do we have to fill in the screening ceed exam the discipline/programme that we are applying for as in product deign or visual communication etc as i heard tht around 75 candidates for each discipline are shortlisted.. and then again..as i was looking at the old question papers there were options between like product design or car design question and comic strip design if am applying for product design can i attempt the comic strip part..? i.e are thr specific questions for specific design programmes/disciplines or is it a common-can-attempt-any sort of question paper am really confused ...am weak at this sketching story board and all ..so how should i prepare or can i completely drop it if am not applying for animation design...and lastly...from when do i have to start preparing my portfolio..as i read a lot of discussions going around regarding the portfolio among the ceed 2013 aspirants..but i was wondering why talk abt d portfolio now? is it requiredd to work on it? olso when is the DAT scheduled after the screening..am a student of architecture..in final year rite now..dont really get time coz of the final yearnthesis in which am preoccupied...sorry for the long post..but u r the only person i can look up to!!! thanks a lot :) looking forward for your reply..

Prasanna Gadkari (M.Des in Product Design from I.I.Sc. ) said...

Hi Apoorva,
You can find the difference between product design and industrial design here
CEED is a general exam and is independent of what discipline you are applying for, so everyone is expected to attempt every question irrespective of the discipline he/she is interested in. if you are not so good at attempting comic strip type questions, you might need to practice them. Its not that difficult. From my own experience in product design, I draw comic strips many times for our company’s client to make them understand how a product works. So you see, these skills are vital!

I agree with you regarding the portfolio. You have about two months time after CEED to make a decent portfolio. Besides, you are from architectural background, you might have your own portfolio. You just need to add a few things probably.

You might want to read about the selection process here
